Compounded Pain Creams vs Traditional Pills: Understanding the Best Choice for You
The other day I walked into the bank and was talking with one of my favorite tellers, Cheryl. She had hurt her knee and was in quite a bit of pain, but even more than the pain of her ankle was the stomach pain she was enduring from the pain medication she was on. Because we have been compounding pain medication for customers who are raving about it, I instantly told her that if she wanted to stop taking the pills that maybe we had a better option. That being said, I want to tell you upfront that pain creams are not for everyone.
No one likes to hurt. Even worse is when the pain is chronic, as with arthritis and not as in my friend Cheryl’s case where she was obviously in a good amount of pain. Fortunately, her knee healed. Some people prefer the routine and convenience of pain pills and have no interest in messing with the application of the cream. They suffer no real side effects from taking their medication in pill form and feel that it is best for them, and because of that feeling, it is.
But there are other patients with pain, both temporary and chronic, who don’t respond as well to medication in pill form, who experience upset stomachs and other adverse reactions that they’d rather I not share on this blog, but long story short, they really don’t want to take pills anymore. That’s where pain creams come to the rescue.
So What’s the Deal with These Pain Creams?
Whether it’s arthritis, sports injuries like the one Cheryl experienced or something like TMJ, pain and disorder of the temporomandibular joints in the jaw, pain creams are soaring in popularity among their users and one of our providers summed it up nicely when she was recently raving to us about the effectiveness of the cream. “I LOVE IT!” she enthused, and I was smiling and laughing at how much she emphasized the word “love.”
“You really love it that much?” I asked, still laughing. She REALLY loved the pain cream.
“I DO!” she said, still gushing. “And tell me why is that?” I asked.
“Because it WORKS!”
Folks, I couldn’t have asked for a better testimony than that. She said she has chronic shoulder pain that she has tried medicating other ways and never found as much relief as she has from our compounded pain cream.
